Buda Historic Home and Garden
Of national significance, Buda Historic Home & Garden in Castlemaine Central Victoria is open to the public Wednesday to Sunday, public holidays and any day by appointment for groups.
The house is an accredited museum featuring the intact furnishings, personal belongings and art collection of the talented Leviny family who resided there for almost 120 years over two generations.
Soak up the atmosphere beneath the cool canopy of heritage trees, enjoy a picnic, or “promenade” as in days gone by along the winding paths of one of the most important large 19th century suburban gardens surviving in Victoria.
Special exhibitions are regularly displayed in the house exploring the Leviny family’s many interests.
Whether you are interested in the gold rush, heritage gardens, the Arts & Craft movement, silver work, or women’s history, there is something to interest everyone.
By prior arrangement, guided tours of the house and garden and catering can be provided at any time for groups. For those planning a special event Buda’s Garden Room is the perfect venue.
Why not become a “Friend of Buda” and enjoy free admission all year round?
Buda’s gift shop and plant nursery can be accessed daily free of charge. A unique range of jewellery, cards and craft work can be purchased, ideal for Christmas and special occasions.
For the avid gardeners, Buda’s Plant Nursery specialises in the great survivors of the goldfields, with many heritage and drought tolerant plants, shrubs and trees for sale. Our garden curator is available Mondays and Tuesdays for expert advice.
